Room to LeadTM

Leadership Program for Team Leaders

Stop Wearing Every Hat

Build capable Room Leaders, strengthen team culture, and future-proof your leadership pipeline.

Room to Lead™ is HGT EDU’s practical leadership program for Room Leaders, Team Leaders, and emerging leaders.

Designed around our Distributed Leadership Model, this program helps Directors build leadership capability across the service — so quality, communication, accountability, and team culture are not dependent on one person.
Because every Director and Room Leader we speak to says some version of the same thing:

“I felt like I was thrown in the deep end.”

Room to Lead™ changes that.

It gives emerging leaders the tools, confidence, language, and structure to lead well — while helping Directors learn how to give their Room Leaders the room to lead.

This is leadership development, team culture building, and future workforce strategy in one practical program.

Why HGT EDU Created Room to LeadTM

At HGT EDU, we have spent years working alongside early learning services where the Director is carrying far too much.

Not because the team does not care.

But because leadership has not always been intentionally built around them.

Too often, Room Leaders and emerging leaders are placed into leadership roles without the tools, confidence, language, or support they need. They are expected to lead people, hold expectations, manage communication, and influence culture — often while still feeling like they have been “thrown in the deep end.”

That is exactly why we created Room to Lead™.

For the past five years, we have delivered this program in Adelaide and have seen the impact firsthand: leaders becoming more confident, more engaged, more reflective, and more capable of making a real difference in their rooms and services.

Now, we are bringing Room to Lead™ to services across Australia.

The program helps early childhood services grow capable leaders at every level — leaders who understand people, communicate clearly, build trust, hold expectations, strengthen culture, and lead with purpose.

Because when Room Leaders grow, Directors carry less — and the whole service becomes stronger.

What Happens When the Right Support Is in Place

The Leadership Gap Most Services Feel

Many services have passionate educators stepping into leadership roles without enough practical support.

This can lead to:

  • Unclear expectations
  • Difficult conversations being avoided
  • Room leaders doing everything themselves
  • Educators relying too heavily on one person
  • Inconsistent communication
  • Team culture issues
  • Low accountability
  • Stress, overwhelm and reactive decision-making
  • Directors carrying problems that should be led within rooms

Room to Lead™ helps services build leadership capability where it matters most — in the rooms, routines, relationships and everyday decisions that shape quality.

Benefits for Services

Build Leaders Who Can Actually Lead the Room

Room to Lead™ helps services:

  • Strengthen leadership confidence
  • Reduce Director dependency
  • Improve communication and feedback
  • Build accountability across rooms
  • Support succession planning
  • Improve team culture
  • Create more consistent expectations
  • Strengthen distributed leadership
  • Support leaders to coach rather than rescue
  • Build leadership habits that last

The goal is for participants to finish with more than inspiration. They leave with reflection, language, tools and actions they can use immediately.

I highly recommend the Room to Lead ™ series from HGT Education! It was engaging and practical, with a good insight into leadership styles, communication and relative information regarding what helps to create a cohesive team.

The training was valuable and has given useful tools and insights to apply in my role.

— Emma – Lead Educator

The Hourglass Time Education team has been an invaluable support to Magill Campus and Community Centre over the past few years, delivering multiple professional development training sessions that have profoundly impacted our educators and Centre.

One of the standout programs has been the Room to Lead ™ Leadership training. These sessions, led by Michelle, encouraged critical thinking and reflection, allowing participants to challenge and expand their perspectives. Through this training, staff had the opportunity to visit other Centres, drawing inspiration from various environmental setups. The growth we witnessed among our educators was remarkable—the passion they brought to our Centre was infectious and positively influenced the entire team.

— Amy May – Centre Director- Magill campus and Community Children’s Centre

The sessions are fantastic and a revolution for the brain!

Ideas come effortlessly during these trainings, so inspiring!
